The Department of Meteorology and Climate Science at San José State University (SJSU) is seeking applicants for the post of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Physical Meteorology with applications to Climate Science. Applicants must have completed a PhD in Atmospheric Science or a closely-related field by the start of the appointment. Applicants should have a demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience. Applicants should also have a demonstrated record of research and publication in their field of study.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of courses that over time will include General Education, undergraduate (BS), and graduate (MS) courses in Meteorology and Climate Science. In particular, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching classes in the general area of Physical Meteorology, including clouds and cloud processes, radiative transfer, thermodynamics etc. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop courses in his/her area of expertise. Innovation in teaching is strongly encouraged at SJSU. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program involving both graduate and undergraduate students, and also participate in advising, committee, and departmental outreach activities. The candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity — in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation — through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

The starting date for ths appointment is August 18, 2015. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
