We are doing another huge refactor to deal with these very large grib
collections, funded by NCDC. Its on the 4.5 branch which uses Java 7. If you
want to be a beta tester, Ill let you know when its ready (probably Jan, but
might be sooner).
> We are looking at the possibility of serving up NOAA's new GEFS
> Reforecast2 dataset through our TDS. This dataset was just announced in
> the latest Bulletin of the AMS:
> This is a huge dataset (>130 TB). The data are stored in GRIB2 files
> with the following directory structure:
> and each file is a particular variable with all forecast times in it.
> For each variable, there is an week1 and week2 file (0-192hr,
> 186-384hr). The resolution in the path is either the native gaussian
> (~.5degrees) and an interpolated 1x1 degree version. It is updated
> nightly and currently only has the 00Z model run.
> The data is available now via FTP:
> But some users would like OPeNDAP access to the data.
> Wwat's the best way to set this up in the TDS? We could do a simple
> dataset scan, but I'm wondering if the new grib feature collection would
> handle this.
