Hi Roy,

The netCDF-Java library interprets the time information in a single GRIB record
file as

  int time(time=1);
    :units = "Hour since 2012-02-01T00:00:00Z";
    :standard_name = "time";
    :long_name = "Uninitialized analysis / image product
                  / forecast product valid for RT + P1";
  data:
    {0}

with the reference time in the "units" attribute changing between files and the
"time" data value remaining zero.

When all the GRIB records for each month are combined in a single file, I'm
seeing the same "Variable name (pres_msl) must be unique within Group" error
you saw when I open the file for the 201202 month. The other two months open OK.

My guess is that at least one of the files either has bad time information or
some variation in the pres_msl attributes. Still need to dig a bit more to
figure out those details.

More soon ...

Ethan
