Unidata,
Since we at the AWIPS program have had a couple of inquiries about the current SCN discussing movement of products on the SBN/NOAAPort, as well as what will happen in the future with the next two changes, we wanted to provide you an overview of all the expected changes.
Phase 1: Migration of model data (grib, grib2 and bufr) that was identified on the SBN’s highest priority channel to the same channel as all other model data. This will ensure delays do not occur to NWS’s Watch/Warning/Advisories (WWA).
Phase 2: Restore the border Canadian Radars back to the SBN in the same location as all other radar data on the SBN.
Phase 3: Create a new “Radar” Channel (using an existing channel that is no longer used) and move all Radar Data to that channel. This includes: WSR-88D, TDWR, MRMS and NHC P-Surge products. This channel will have a priority just below the highest priority channel, thus further ensuring no delays to NWS WWA products.
Migrating to the use of ANY for feedtype will help ensure continuity of delivery as we move this data around.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
