I've created a Jira issue describing the bug: https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/jira/browse/NCF-141 A temporary workaround is to avoid having a dimension with the same name as a variable, when the variable is not a coordinate variable for the dimension, as is the case with the unused "time" dimension in your file and the "int time(yc,xc)" variable. I've verified that the compression works OK if either the dimension or variable is renamed, or if the unused dimension is deleted. I'm not sure whether this will get fixed before the 4.2 release, as the bug appears to occur because code is missing to detect this case, and it may need to be added in several places in the netCDF-4 library. --Russ > Thanks, > > with the documentation I was able to install netcdf-4.2-rc1.
