[netCDF #NMS-618483]: problems with NETCDF on macosx10.6

I believe you have to be using gcc-mp-4.4 as your C compiler, if
you are going to use gfortran-mp-4.4.  We don't have either of
those compilers installed here for testing, but I've verified 
that gcc-4.5 and gfortran-4.5 work fine with netCDF-4.0.1 on 
MacOS-X 10.6.

You might consult this step-by-step procedure for building AMBER with
gcc-mp-4.4 and gfortran-mp-4.4, as AMBER uses netCDF:
