The Unidata McIDAS map files OUTVHRES and OUTVHPOL have higher resolutions than
OUTLHRES and OUTLHPOL, but they may not be as high in resolution as what you
want.

Try the following to see the difference in, for instance, OUTLHRES and
OUTVHRES for the Okinawa area:

SF 1
ERASE F
MAP DEF LAT=22 30 LON=-134 -122 FILE=OUTLHRES

SF 2
ERASE F
MAP DEF LAT=22 30 LON=-134 -122 FILE=OUTVHRES

LB 1 2
TERM L ON

Yes, OUTLSUPW is much lower resolution.

Comment:

If you find map outline files outside of McIDAS, it is possible
that they can be converted to the McIDAS map file format using
MAKEMAP. Whether or not MAKEMAP will work will depend on the
format of the map outline file that you find.

Cheers,

Tom
