[McIDAS #KGS-573992]: compression not working with a couple remote servers

We have stop installing 'compress' way back when it was copyrighted
software, and given the built-in gzip compression in McIDAS-X, we
see no compelling reason to install it now.

Why would you want to use 'compress' compression when 'gzip' support
is:

- built into McIDAS-X

- does a better job of compression
