[McIDAS #FQS-529833]: Hang on...another ride coming.

Hi Gilbert,

Hopefully your machines are on high quality UPSes...

OK.

I get highly suspicious when there are multiple failures on a machine.

I just logged in to weather and made the following change to /etc/hosts:

#127.0.0.1      weather.admin.niu.edu   weather localhost.localdomain
localhost
127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain   localhost
#::1    localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6

After making the change, the errors you reported in /var/log/messages went
away:

131.156.8.47 != weather.admin.niu.edu
Oct  6 13:20:02 weather xinetd[2559]: EXIT: mcidas status=0 pid=16381
duration=0(sec)
Oct  6 13:20:02 weather xinetd[2559]: START: mcidas pid=16385
from=::ffff:131.156.8.47
Oct  6 13:20:02 weather xinetd[16385]: warning: /etc/hosts.allow, line 23: host

Oct  6 13:21:01 weather xinetd[2559]: START: mcidas pid=16751

Oct  6 13:21:01 weather xinetd[2559]: EXIT: mcidas status=0 pid=16755
duration=0(sec)
 ...

I contend that you _never_ should add the machine name to the 127.0.0.1
definition.
I commented out the last line since you are (likely) not using IPv6.

I'll take a closer look at the McIDAS/ADDE/LDM setup later today or tonight. I
have an architect coming over in a half hour...

Cheers,

Tom
