Hi Robert, re: I'll try to get the ASCII version of McIDAS OUTLANT file from SSEC > Thanks very much. I got the ASCII version of the file from SSEC; reformatted it to be usable by GEMPAK's ssfgsf utility (and also the McIDAS MAKEAREA program); and Chiz converted it this morning into a GEMPAK binary map file (file attached named antarctica.mcidas). For a visual comparison of the boundaries of each, please check out: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/staff/chiz/antarctica.gif This image masks somewhat the resolution of the McIDAS map file in certain areas and shows that the GEMPAK file has higher resolution in others. Comment: displaying the ice sheets in a map seems to be "dangerous" since the outline of the ice sheet is likely to change continuously.
