IDV has the bonus of being able to access remote servers as well as local files.

McIDAS also can read from remote servers (ADDE) or from local files, or a local 
server.
McIDAS is very strong with satellite imagery viz and analysis, but also does 
grids, radar, text, soundings, etc..

GEMPAK is probably the most widely used, we have decoders that work well with 
the LDM.
GEMPAK is very strong with gridded data sets viz and analysis, but also does a 
great job w/sat, radar, soundings, text, etc..
