It looks like the data is unstructured gridded, not supported in the IDV. My

the post-process dataset that is in a structure gridded. In the GFS, the model 
itself is unstructured
gridded, but the official distributed dataset is in structure. Not many 
software can process
the unstructured gridded dataset.
