[IDV #SRR-673162]: IDV Locarl Radar Display

Hi Joel,

After seeing Yuan's comment yesterday, we decided to dig some more, and here
is what we came up with:

1) users can add their own stations to the IDV through the creation/modification
   of a "local station table"

   What was not obvious (to us, at least) was that the local station table
   needs to be named userstations.xml.

   userstations.xml needs to be copied into the user's .unidata/idv/DefaultIdv
   directory.

2) the format of the userstations.xml file is almost exactly what you had
   in your nexradstations.xml file that you included in your first email:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<stationtable name="NEXRAD Sites" category="Weather">
   <station idn="" id="GUA" name="Guatemala/Las Nubes" st="" co=""
lat="14:33:59" lon="-90:18:06" elev="2561"/>
</stationtable>

   The thing that we recommend doing, however, is to specify the country
   code in the 'co=""' attribute as follows:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<stationtable name="NEXRAD User Sites" category="Weather">
   <station idn="" id="GUA" name="Guatemala/Las Nubes" st="" co="GT"
lat="14:33:59" lon="-90:18:06" elev="2561"/>
</stationtable>

Once you have created 'userstations.xml' in the user's .unidata'/idv/DefaultIdv
directory _and_ restarted the IDV, the station(s) defined in the file will
show up in the Displays -> Locations -> Weather -> NEXRAD User Sites in the
'Locations:Weather::NEXRAD User Sites' control. But, it(they) will _not_ show
up in:

Data Choosers -> Radar -> NEXRAD - Local -> Radar Location dropdown menu.

In order to have the station(s) added to this menu, one must include the
type="radar" attribute in the <stationtable> element as follows:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<stationtable name="NEXRAD User Sites" category="Weather" type="radar">
   <station idn="" id="GUA" name="Guatemala/Las Nubes" st="" co="GT"
lat="14:33:59" lon="-90:18:06" elev="2561"/>
</stationtable>

The station will also be included in the 'Locations:Weather::NEXRAD User Sites'
control.

We hope that this helps...

Cheers,

Tom
