Dave,
      Both local access and ramadda access the area file rely on the CDM 
library, this is why you see the same problem. The nport vis data is standard 
CF gridded format dataset and the coordinate system has all the information 
needed for PR. 

      By the way, I will be out of town next week and maybe some delay for 
answering the support.
