[IDD #XKB-663766]: Getting data for AWIPS II - International access

AWIPS will be able to display imagery and products from GOES-R.  How
the imagery will be fed into the system is a different topic.

I assume you are referring to the Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO)?

OK.  We have received some funds to install a GOES-R downlink here in
UCAR.  Our desire is to be able to make the imagery and products
that will be ingested available to as wide a user base as possible
mainly through remote server (e.g., McIDAS ADDE, TDS and potentially
AWIPS EDEX) access.

We developed the Internet Data Distribution (IDD) system to "push"
products to end users.  The primary intended constituency has always
been the U.S. university community that has atmospheric science programs.
Over the years, the participants in the IDD has grown to include a number
of U.S. government organizations, some extra-U.S. weather services
and even some private businesses, but there are restrictions on who can
participate in the IDD.

For non-primary users (meaning those that are not U.S. universities), we have
always had a stipulation that them being fed by us has to have some measurable
benefit to the Unidata community as a whole.

It is continuous, and the volumes of data that are part of the distribution
system are _large_ -- currently up to 60 GB/hr for peak hours and growing.
Those participating in the IDD and receiving high volumes of data, therefore,
need to have excellent network connectivity.
