Tom (and all),

One thing you might check is, in the ldmadmin script I still had
my $hostname  set to  "\@HOSTNAME@"; (thought it was a macro but I
guess not).

I've not changed it to be 
$hostname = "sunset.meteor.wisc.edu";

we'll see if that makes a difference.
