[GEMPAK #OFM-264790]: SFCNTR Segmentation fault...



The way you're logging output is preventing the gif file from being written. 
You need to change your logging from stderr ( >& $LOG_PATH/surface.log ) to 
stdout (> $LOG_PATH/surface.log ) and it should work fine.
