[GEMPAK #RUX-727661]: Ability of GEMPAK to dump/list data files in ASCII format

Massoud,

The NAM211 grid will match the wildcard entry of @@@ in the gribkey.tbl as
documented.
You, of course, have to wait until the next 00Z or 12Z cycle after you have run
"ldmadmin pqactHUP" in order to look for changes. Since I sent you the message
after the 12Z
cycle this morning, it should be after 00Z tonight before you would see any
arrival of NAM211 bulletins. You must reun the "ldmadmin pqactHUP" command
after making any
changes to the pqact.conf file in order for the pqact program to recognize the
changes.

GEMPAK is far too complicated a package for what you apparently want.
A simple program like wgrib for dumping the ascii may be what you are looking
for:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/wesley/wgrib.html

To use GDLIST or GDCSV to output a grid you would run the program for each
desired product.
But to output an entire model run to ascii is obviously not what the decoder or
analysis programs of GEMPAK are designed for since they are designed to
use data with GEMPAK.The total volume of ascii data that would need to be
output for
a model run would probably be a huge load for IO on a system so you would not
want to do that from the LDM in pqact, but rather file the GRIB to
disk and then process the GRIB outside of the LDM process (otherwise, if your
system IO load is too high, you may lose incoming data).

If you truly want to use model data, and you don't want to use GEMPAK for the
purpose of analyzing the data as it was intended, perhaps the best solution
is for you to look at the WMO GRIB 388 document such as:
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/docs/on388/
and then wgrib as I mentioned above.
