David,
The documentation of the GEMPAK qvec function is found in
$NAWIPS/doc/User_guide/pdf/apxB2.pdf
The Garp fdf files for a particular grid data set
can be found under $GARPHOME/fdf, eg for eta212
$GARPHOME/fdf/vector/eta212/general
There you will find the equations being used for Garp's predefined
set of functions, for example: Qvec_ms-1
type = vector
layer = y
function = s=sm5s(sm5s(sm5s(sm5s(sm5s(ldf(hght))))))//ldfh
function2 = v=smul(4e9,qvec(ldfh,sm5v(sm5v(sm5v(vlav(geo))))))
description = Q-vector in K/m/s \
Of course, you do not have to use COMET's fdfs in Garp. You can enter your
own gfunc usage or create your own fdf's.
