20020319: 20020308: Problems with gempak installation

Matthew,

The error InitGempakColorMap seems to indicate that your X display is
not running as an 8 bit, pseudocolor display. Use the xdpyinfo command to
verify this. Or, you are using GNOME instead of KDE, FVWM, or TWM etc.
GNOME is not compatble since it allocates all colors for the system
read-only.

When you run "linuxconfig" to set up the display in Linux, you should select
the 8 bit (256 color) choice for your monitor. Alternatively, you can
run Linux with multiple X servers, and hot-swap between then using
the 8 bit visual for GEMPAK.

You should always run Garp from the "ntl" launcher bar in GEMPAK since
ntl will set up the shared color map for all the GEMPAK programs.
