20010424: GDRADR

Robert,

The first time through- it takes about 10 minutes for both. This is thr process
of mapping the 153 radar sites from their projection into the 360,000 point
grid. Both products are using the same nexrad.tbl and same number of grid
points- so both take about the same time.

After that clipping is accomplished the first time, all subsequent
passses take about 1 minute. Even on my test computers which
ane nowhere near a quad-450. More like a single 175MHz SGI.

The first pass thorugh the regional mosaic can be sped up significantly by using
a station table that only has the stations which are in the region (the output
from the program can be used to deterine which stations these are for
later use). But, since I set up the region as relocatable, I down't know
a-priori what those stations are. If you were setting up a process to create
8 or so subregions of the country with fixed domains, you
would always know what stations are in those regions, so it would be beneficial
to create subregion station tables in that case.

I'm considering trying to add a trivial rejection test to eliminate some
sites before they reach the gqbnds() call. That would predominanlt effect the
regional mosaic more than the national.
