Sounds good, we (Unidata) do not handle the re-analysis data, NCAR and NOAA
(NCEP) provide the reanalysis. Unidata does support netCDF, which can work in
Matlab, IDL, ESRI GIS and others..so it might be wise to choose netCDF
as your output format of choice
Please see for NOAA' site:
http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/reanalysis/reanalysis.shtml
..and for NCAR:
http://dss.ucar.edu/pub/reanalysis/
They (either site) will be better positioned to get you the data you desire
and address any questions outside of our scope.

Great, this is a dods (OpeNDAP) URL serving up netCDF data ( the .nc extension)

That will best be answered by NOAA or NCAR, wherever you choose to access
the data.
Hope this helped,
Jeff
