[Datastream #IJN-200350]: 20060708: EAST and WEST datasets not updating on unidata2

OK, we have configured an LDM under the 'gvarldm' account on 
gvarldm.ssec.wisc.edu
(IP address 128.104.110.24).  In order to get syslogd logging working, we had
to override the log facility used by the LDM and add new configuration lines
to /etc/syslog.conf (the override is accomplished by setting the 
ULOG_FACILITY_OVERRIDE
environment variable so that it is in the environment when the LDM is started).

Currently, we are redundantly ingesting the GOES data through the 'ldm' and 
'gvarldm'
accounts.  I intend to turn off the ingestion through the 'ldm' account after I
fully understand ownership issues in a variety of directories (e.g., 
/data/gvar/...).
Currently the GVAR processing is all done by 'ldm' and permissions on a variety 
of
directories are owned by ldm:ustaff with permissions 644.  I will need to either
change the ownership of the various files, or change the permissions on the 
various
files to allow read/write by owner and group.  If you have any comments on which
way would be better, please send them along.

We have one issue that appears to be out of our control:  we are unable to
ldmping, do a notifyme, etc. from Unidata machines to gvarldm.ssec.wisc.edu.
We believe that there is some sort of firewall outside of unidata2/gvarldm
that is preventing these from working.  Can you check to see if there is a 
firewall
configuration somewhere in the Data Center that allows access to 
unidata2.ssec.wisc.edu
but not gvarldm.ssec.wisc.edu?  Thanks in advance!
