[Datastream #QKV-339231]: Re: Stopped receiving GOES-10 AREA FILES...need help!

Hi Marek,

I hope you are well...

Yes.

> Suddenly, since Jun 21, 2006 I stopped receiving data from GOES-10.

GOES-10 has been replaced by GOES-11 as GOES-West. The transition was started
on June 21, and it was completed on June 28. The transition schedule from
GOES-11
to GOES-11 was announced in the nws-changes email list, and it has been
discussed
in ldm-users email list since.

I just checked and see that you are not subscribed to either the ldm-users or
nws-changes email lists, so you did not receive notification of the switch.

I strongly encourage you to subscribe to one or both of ldm-users or
nws-changes.
This can be done online at:

If you are requesting all of the data in the UNIWISC (aka MCIDAS) IDD
datastream, then you should have been receiving the GOES-11 data.

> I would be very grateful if you can you help me with?:
> #1. Start receiving again data from GOES-10?

GOES-10 has been decommissioned as GOES-West. It will be drifted eastward
to 60 E where it will be repurposed to cover South American. You should
switch to use of the GOES-11 data in place of GOES-10.

> #2. Recover missing data since Jun, 21 up-to-date?

You should be able to get most of the data you missed via passworded
FTP to the machine that maintains online access to "recent" data sent
in the IDD UNIWISC feed:

machine:   unidata2.ssec.wisc.edu
user:      unidata3
pass:      unirec7
directory: neartime/...

The subdirectories of 'neartime' are organized by day, so it will be easy
to review the data that is available and download what you need. The file
naming convention is intended to be self explanatory:

-rw-r--r--   1 ldm      ustaff    2439056 Jun 22 23:11 200606222300.goes10ir
-rw-r--r--   1 ldm      ustaff    2439056 Jun 22 23:12 200606222300.goes10irl
-rw-r--r--   1 ldm      ustaff    2439056 Jun 22 23:11 200606222300.goes10irs
-rw-r--r--   1 ldm      ustaff    2439056 Jun 22 23:11 200606222300.goes10vis
-rw-r--r--   1 ldm      ustaff     613456 Jun 22 23:11 200606222300.goes10wv

The suffix indicates the image band:

ir  -> 10.7 um
irl -> 12.0 um     (GOES-East is 13.3 um)
irs ->  3.9 um
vis -> 0.65 um
wv  ->  6.8 um     (GOES-East is 6.5 um)

Your request for access to data you missed has shown me that the naming
convention
for these archive files is incorrect. Starting on June 21 they should be
CCYYMMDDHHMM.goes11ir,
etc.

What is your ~ldm/etc/ldmd.conf request line? If you are requesting all
UNIWISC (aka MCIDAS)
data, then you should be receiving the GOES-11 imagery.

I see from the pqact.conf entries you included that you are running the 2003
version of
the ldm-mcidas decoder 'pnga2area'. This should be OK since the 2003 version
of SATANNOT
had an entry for GOES-11 data. To check, please take a look at the
subdirectories of

/Satellite/satdat/

on your LDM ingest machine. I am guessing that you will find a GOES-11
subdirectory there.
