20041213: What is The GOES visual channel images span (GOES-10,GOES-12), north?

The designated center point for the GOES-East images in the
Unidata-Wisconsin datastream (IDD feedtype UNIWISC, aka MCIDAS)
is 23N 71W.

How far north a particular _can_ include, it is approximately 65:45N at
72W (the current GOES-12 sub-satellite longitude).  The Unidata-Wisconsin
sectors, of course, will include points further north at locations east
and west of the sub satellite longitude.

Exactly how far north a particular sector _will_ include will depend on
the actual scan from GOES-12, but it will never include points further
north than approx. 65:45N at 72W.

Since the actual satellite coverage varies with the scanning schedule
set by NOAA, there is no way that we can tell you apriori how far north
a particular sector will cover.

This depends on what your goal is:

- if your goal is to go as far north as the most northerly points
  possible in the sectors, then you should go up to 70N

- if your goal is to go as far as the most northerly points at the
  sub-satellite longitude, you can go up to 65:45N

- if your goal is to never have any blank lines, you would need to
  go only as far north as the sector that has the lowest northerly
  coverage.  I would never recommend this option since NOAA can
  change the scan coverage at any time.
