That means that the images that appeared in the Unidata-Wisconsin
datastream are not available from the FTP repository at SSEC. The
reason for this is that the images were not being archived to
tape until fairly recently (they were in the past, but that stopped
when the original UW datastream preparation machine died).

Unfortunately, this may not be simple. SSEC does have a mechanism
for .edu sites to get free access to their GOES archive (the full
GOES archive, not the Unidata-Wisconsin archive), but that usually
takes a bit of time (I helped one site last summer, and it took over
a month). You may do best to subscribe to the needdata email list
that we maintain and post your request to it.
You can subscribe to the needdata email list online at:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/mailinglist/mailing-list-form.html
Please wait for confirmation of your subscription to any Unidata-maintained
email list before posting to the list (otherwise your message will bounce).
The procedure for requesting data from the SSEC GOES archive is
as follows:
Go to:
http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/datacenter/
Click on:
Archive Data Information
Click on the 'EDU Requests' link at the bottom of the 'Archive Data
Information' page and follow the instructions there. Note, however,
that the data request must come from a .edu machine or it will be
rejected.
Again, let us know if we can help in any way.
