Jim,

>It looks like atm.geo.nsf.gov came back this morning,

This is suprising since we couldn't get in contact with anyone at NSF
yesterday. Also, I can't ping atm, or get any response from its ADDE
servers.

>but an interesting
>thing happened--all the directories, such as 1KN0R-NAT, etc.
>disappeared. I re-created them. Now, I'm investigating to see if I can
>see why. Can you think of anything in your prune routine that would have
>caused this?

The prune_nexrcomp.csh script should remove directories if they are
empty. The directory structure will be recreated when new imagery is
received, so you don't have to do that by hand.

>I'm now on a very fast internet connection at home. I think that it's
>faster than what we have at school.

I am jealous! When I was living in Longmont, I had a 1.2 Mbps ADSL
connection, and working from home was actually faster than working from
the UPC (the reason for this was that my machine at home was twice as
fast (with 4 times the memory) than my aging machine at work). Now, I
am living in the foothills above Boulder, and my only connection is a
24 Kbps dial-up. Where I used to load loops in my local McIDAS
session, I now load single images, AND can go off and make a cup of
coffee while things like 1 km VIS images load. I have been trying to
find an alternative, but I am striking out. Satellite internet has a
time lag (2*35,800 km / C) that can be annoying when doing things
interactively (like editing documents), and I don't have the line of
sight that would allow me to connect up to some internet radio setups
in the area.
