Hi,
Let me just comment on one issue that came up in the motherlode email interchange.
This question of access permissions keeps coming up in different contexts for a variety of different UCAR resources -- especially those one can get at directly or indirectly from the WWW. I believe a number of groups including the Web Engineering Group, DLESE, the Access Grid group, and Ethan Alpert's Earth System Grid (?) are gravitating toward a general authentication and authorization facilty associated with the Access Grid. If it's possible to handle many of these access situations with a common authentication system, it would be a big help to our users. That way they wouldn't have to have a different account/login/password for every different service they accessed.
I'm going to send a copy of this to the others to solicit their input because I certainly don't pretend to understand it fully.
