     1. Rumor: Alden has declared 'Chapter 11' bankruptcy. True?

I'm not certain. Discussions I've heard seem to indicate that they
have systems running in a building that has been locked by the
landlord, so Alden staff cannot get in...

     2. Observation: The Family of Services data via Unidata has
major holes these days. Is this a temporary problem? Is it
related to Alden?

As far as I know, the Alden situation is not affecting our IDD flows
in any way, other than that a folks in the northeast may recieve
their data from different nodes now. When I planned our transition
to NOAAport, I did so with the knowledge that Alden was not healthy
and set things up so we had few dependencies on them.

I'm quite sure that the IDD is conveying the entirety of those data
which the NWS transmits via NOAAport (excluding the image channels).
Thus, any holes you are seeing either reflect problems at the NWS or
configuration problems in your LDM. The latter explanation may be
plausible, because there have been some header changes recently, as
discussed on our ldm-users mailing list.

I suggest that you send an e-mail to that list describing the "holes"
and asking whether others are missing the same data. (You will have
to be a list subscriber to do so. See:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/mailinglist/mailing-list-form.html)

If you are having configuration problems, please e-mail
address@hidden for assistance.
