20000804: no LDM log files on unidata.ssec.wisc.edu (cont.)

Jerry, et. al.,

The syslogd process has died again on unidata.ssec.wisc.edu. Without
syslogd, there will be no LDM log files. syslogd needs to be restarted
by 'root'. Can someone there please take care of this? Thanks.

As a reminder, it is probably a very good idea to:

o shut down the LDM (as user 'ldm')

  ldmadmin stop

o wait until all LDM processes have exited

o (re)start syslogd (as user 'root')

o verify that syslogd is, in fact, running

o restart the LDM (as user 'ldm' NOT as 'root'):

  ldmadmin start

Tom
