[AWIPS #NXH-679946]: LDM vs pqact question

Hi Peter,
Sorry for the delayed response.
While I'm sure this first exercise with radar data was fun for you (little
sarcasm),
after realizing the full scope of what you want to do another alternative came
to mind.
It sounds like you really want to get as much data as you can (all the data)
into CAVE,
which makes sense. There is currently no formal documentation on how to go
about adding
the additional data sets you want, because as you know, our users all receive
the data
directly from our feeds, and have no need to do this labor-intensive effort
with individual
data sets. With that said, if you were to pursue ingesting each data type
yourself, I
can't guarantee that EDEX and CAVE would end up being able to process and read
them, because
I can't guarantee that whatever source data you're getting is in the exact same
format that
AWIPS expects (this happened to be the case with the radar data, which is
great, but I
can't guarantee that with all data).
In short, I think you could probably get a lot more data into AWIPS on your
own, but I think
it will not be trivial, and you may not be able to get everything you want.
So, instead of going down that route, another idea came to mind. As you had
mentioned in
your first email, you can't access our feed because you're a non-university
entity. This
is only partially true. You can have access to it if you were to work out a
service
agreement with Unidata. I do not handle that side of things, but my coworker
Josh Young,
would be happy to talk to you about that kind of arrangement. For some
negotiated fee we
could set up a service to feed you the data for your AWIPS system. That would
guarantee
that all the data we have working for universities would work for you, and
should require
much less setup and troubleshooting on both your and my side.
If you're interested in this proposal please feel free to contact Josh at
address@hidden.
Let me know if you choose to pursue this opportunity, I think it may be the
best solution
for what you're looking for.
Thanks!
