Installing McIDAS-X on Unix or Mac OS X Workstations

The system administrator or person who installs McIDAS-X will use these installation instructions.

Unidata McIDAS-X and -XCD have been successfully built at SSEC or the UPC on the platforms in the following table. McIDAS-XCD has been tested at the UPC on two of these platforms, Sun Solaris SPARC and CentOS 6.6/7 Linux.

2. Unidata builds and runs McIDAS-X (not -XCD) under 32-bit Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

3. McIDAS-XCD is tested at the UPC exclusively on one platform, CentOS 6.9 x86_64 Linux.

4. Use of GNU gcc and gfortran is the only compiler combination supported.

5. Unidata dropped support for building current versions of McIDAS-X/-XCD/-XRD under Solaris due to problems building HDF5 which is included to support imagery in netCDF-4 format.
