[UDUNITS #AAI-259957]: Unable to compile readGeneral.F

Sorry about that. You could also google "udunits readgeneral" in the 
"www.unidata.ucar.edu" domain.

As I recall. the problem is that the macro UD_POINTER in file "udunits.inc" 
isn't getting defined because that file isn't being pre-processed by cpp(1). 
You might try explicitly pre-processing it and modifying readgeneral.F to 
include the pre-processed file rather than "udunits.inc". Alternatively, there 
might be a gfortran option to ensure pre-processing.
