[THREDDS #ZVT-415274]: Plans for upcoming MRMS GRIB2 data

Earl,

While we do very much prefer NetCDF, we actually host most data/products in
their native format, so we'll be hosting the MRMS in GRIB2, and you'll be able
to download the GRIB files we host from our TDS. However, the TDS also supports
a variety of services, like CDMRemote, OPenDAP, and the NetCDF subset service
(NCSS), so those service provide the data in NetCDF, or NetCDF-like, format(s).

I've got a working implementation done. Your code served as a good starting
point for where to get Java PNG support and roughly how to incorporate into
NetCDF-Java. However, the version of the code you wrote against is about 4
years out of date, and the code had drifted significantly. FYI, the latest
version of the grib library is actually 4.5.4. At some point, we synchronized
the grib package version with the NetCDF-java version, so while 8.x is greater,
it's actually older than 4.5.4.

I'm currently waiting to see some MRMS products come over NOAAPORT. Have you
seen any?

Ryan
