[IDV #BVH-378201]: NAM snow depth on motherlode

Bill,

I did some investigating into the CONUS_12, CONUS_20km NOAA PORT and conduit,
and CONUS_40km conduit models. All the
models above except the CONUS_20km NOAA PORT have the product definition type
as Analysis/Forecast at the Horizontal
level layer. The CONUS_20km NOAA PORT has the product definition type as
Accumulation. So part of the problem as you
mention is Snow Depth definition depends on what model you are inspecting. Most
of the Snow Depth data ranges were
.005 - .09 because the units are meters. The CONUS_12km model had range .15 -
2.5 for the product that I decoded. Those
values seem high to me, so I did a low level dump of the data and those were
the correct values. Could you verify your
finding with NCEP on their web site? Also, could you make available a test file
or tell me what one that is known incorrect so I can verify my findings. I did
notice that it seems that some of the conduit models are the ones with the high
values. There is definitely a problem but at this time, I don't know where it
is.

Thanks,
Robb...
