20001025: f2c stuff for solaris

Alan,

First, I will apologize for not responding to your earlier email. We
are all in crazed workshop mode (machines breaking; networking
problems; final preparations demanding top priority; etc.), so some
things are slipping through the cracks. Again, I apologize.

I am forwarding this to Sandy to see if he can help you through the f2c
build process. Since I have not done this on Solaris SPARC, I can't
give you a simple A, B, C for the f2c build, but I have to imagine that
there is an INSTALL or README document with the distribution that
points the way. I would imagine that the process is probably something
like defining zero or more environment variables; running configure;
running make; and then running make install. I also imagine that you
will have to be root to do the install, but, again, since I have not
done this for Solaris SPARC I may be incorrect.

Hopefully, Sandy can do the build/install here on one of our Solaris
SPARC machines and I can make the executable, header file, and library
available in the same way that I have done for Solaris x86 and Linux.
We will see if that option is viable after Sandy gets some time to look
into the challange.

Sorry for not touching base earlier...
