Jennifer- This particular problem was reported (see https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/jira/browse/NCF-120) and was fixed in the latest daily build starting Sept. 15. As a test, I ran the command: ncdump -v slp "http://opendap.gsfc.nasa.gov:9090/dods/GEOS-5/fp/0.25_deg/assim/inst1_2d_hwl_Nx"; The partial output is at: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/staff/dmh/inst1.txt (the full output is too large).
