I've seen this before and, for the life of me, I can't figure-out what's
wrong (and not for lack of trying).  The problem doesn't seem to occur 
in actual use, however -- only in testing.

I suggest that you go ahead and install the netcdf-perl package and use
it.  Let me know, however, if you encounter this problem again.
