thanks for the info. I was able to install the alpha19. I'm not sure why the configure script was not recognizing my --enable-netcdf4 option, so I did "make" and "make install" in each individual directory and when running the configure script afterwards it worked.
When running "make check" there was one error related to nc_test . The log file is attached. Nevertheless, I was able to install the netcdf4-python, which was the main reason I'm trying to install teh alpha version.
