20040124: application for calculating sun and satellite angles

Hi,

Does anybody know of a McIDAS utility or program that can calculate the
satellite viewing angles and sun angles to pixels of an AREA satellite
image, and export these (such as AXFORM exports Lat/Long parameters) ?
This information would be most useful in radiative transfer
calculations, so it seems like a natural thing for a McIDAS user to
have developed.

Any information would be most appreciated!

Cheers,

Tom

Tom,

You can calculate satellite viewing angles for GVAR satellites using the
nv* routines. Inquiry 12359 has some example code in the action section
and you can look at the following link from the programmers manual:

http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/mug/prog_man/Current/access-6.html

These routines only work for native GVAR projections. The angle
calculations are not available for remapped data, including METEOSAT
data (which is also remapped).
