Is there a preferred access protocol...?

I cannot access:

(jweber) lenny:/home/jweber 21 % ssh -l ldm coatepeque.engr.colostate.edu
(jweber) lenny:/home/jweber 22 % ping coatepeque.engr.colostate.edu

coatepeque.engr.colostate.edu is alive

(jweber) lenny:/home/jweber 23 % telnet -l ldm coatepeque.engr.colostate.edu
Trying 129.82.226.47...

(jweber) lenny:/home/jweber 24 % ssh -l ldm coatepeque.engr.colostate.edu

(jweber) lenny:/home/jweber 25 % rlogin -l ldm coatepeque.engr.colostate.edu

All of these, besides the ping, just hang.
