[IDV #JKN-535702]: idv couldn't run

Sir,

You may be using a 32-bit version of Java possibly on a 64-bit machine
though I cannot be sure because you did not supply much information.

First, determine if your machine is 32-bit or 64-bit:

https://esupport.trendmicro.com/en-us/home/pages/technical-support/1038680.aspx

Next make sure you download the correct version of the IDV

http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/downloads/idv/current/index.jsp

------------------------------------------------------------------------
computer architecture Version of the IDV
------------------------------------------------------------------------
 32-bit IDV 5.2 Installer for Windows XP/Vista/7
 64-bit IDV 5.2 Installer for 64-bit Windows XP/Vista/7
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once you have downloaded the IDV it should be sufficient to start the
IDV via the IDV icon. However, it appears you are starting the IDV from
the Windows command prompt

,----
| jre\bin\java -Xmx1536m -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -Didv.enableStereo=false -jar
idv.jar
`----

If you choose to do that and you are on a 32 bit machine `-Xmx1536m' is
too much and you will have to supply a smaller number (e.g.,
`-Xmx1200m'). (Java cannot use the entire memory capacity available on
your computer, or else it will fail to start, possibly in the manner you
describe.)

Best,

Unidata IV Support
