Hi Lech,
       The dataset you were try to dispaly is in 
atmosphere_hybrid_sigma_pressure_coordiante, and the IDV does the calculation 
of the isentropic potential vorticity and some other derived fields in the 
pressure coordinate system. So you can not display some of the derived fields 
in this dataset.
