[IDD #KUD-512290]: Backup NOAAPort source ?

Hi Rosie, Dave, Jerry, et. al.,

re:

Sounds promising...

Ah Ha!

The line amp makes up for the long signal cable run in the setup here.
We learned that other NWS NOAAPort installations also have the same
line amp in place. FYI, the amp being used here is a:

Norsat LA 30 Rev 01
950-2150 MHz, 75 ohms

This is purported to be a very high quality unit.

re:

OK, now we're talking!

The effect of the increase in C/N can easily be seen in the plot of total
data volume being ingested and relayed in the IDD:

np1.ssec.wisc.edu:
http://rtstats.unidata.ucar.edu/cgi-bin/rtstats/rtstats_summary_volume?np1.ssec.wisc.edu+GRAPH

np2.ssec.wisc.edu:
http://rtstats.unidata.ucar.edu/cgi-bin/rtstats/rtstats_summary_volume?np2.ssec.wisc.edu+GRAPH

Also, a quick look at the log files for the nwstg channel shows that the last
Gap message (which
indicates incomplete products) was seen at 20:48:38.

So, your setup has a polarity servo? Interesting!

re:

No worries.

re:

Well, I can definitely say that both np1 and np2 are processing just about
all of the products that are in the NOAAPort SBN. Success!

Last comment for now:

- I would like to suggest that the NOAAPort stats gathering on both np1 and
np2 be enhanced to save more than just the signal strength

For reference, here are 5 minutes out of one of our NOAAPort ingest
  systems:

20160503.2050 DVBS2 1110.0 30.001 2/3_16APSK 0 On 18 On On 0/s 0.0000e+00
16.3dB -30dBm 0.013 -100.955 173.35 43.51
20160503.2051 DVBS2 1110.0 30.001 2/3_16APSK 0 On 18 On On 0/s 0.0000e+00
16.4dB -30dBm 0.013 -100.955 173.35 43.51
20160503.2052 DVBS2 1110.0 30.001 2/3_16APSK 0 On 18 On On 0/s 0.0000e+00
16.7dB -30dBm 0.013 -100.954 173.35 43.51
20160503.2053 DVBS2 1110.0 30.001 2/3_16APSK 0 On 18 On On 0/s 0.0000e+00
16.7dB -30dBm 0.013 -100.954 173.35 43.51
20160503.2054 DVBS2 1110.0 30.001 2/3_16APSK 0 On 18 On On 0/s 0.0000e+00
16.4dB -30dBm 0.013 -100.954 173.35 43.51

Included in our stats gathering are essentially all of the values that get
listed
by 'cmcs' with the 'show satellite' option. The other items on each line are
the indicated latitude, longitude, azimuth and elevation of the satellite as
estimated by the nwyo.com web site (which I scrape once per minute).

If you are interested in doing the same thing as we are doing, I would be
happy
to install our scripts on both np1 and np2. Just so you know, we setup the
same
stats gathering on the NOAAPort ingest machine at LSU/SRCC.

Cheers,

Tom
