All,

Here's an update on the Internet2/Abilene situation vis-a-vis several people.
The NOAA/NWS is working with College Park, MD (Univ of MD) as their Abilene
partner. Obviously, all of this takes more time than orginally projected
(supposed to be done by October, 2000)

Linda

FYI.

Dr. Edmon,
Well, after some time, this is the reply from NOAA on the link you've been
concerned about. So, temporarily over commodity, then temporarily with ATM to
Abilene connector site (MAX), then permanently to MAX in 3-6 months.

Please let me know if I can help you further on this one. Otherwise, I'll go
ahead and close this ticket.

regards,
John Kelly

John,

Sorry for the delay, I was trying to obtain where things REALLY are at this
time. It now appears that the fiber connection between NOAA and the MAX in
College Park Maryland will not be complete for 3 to 6 months. With this in mind,
the NOC is now obtaining an ATM connection to the MAX in order to cover us until
the fiber is installed. We expect the ATM connection to be in no later then
October, 15, 2000.

I will let you how things look at the end of next week.
