The fact that there are several warnings about fonts not being found and
the Major opcode of the failed request references X_OpenFont makes it sound like
your machines don't have the fonts that are needed. In addition, a quick Google
search for the 'Major opcode...' (used the full line as the search key)
reference
showed an old inquiry from a Unidata site that had the exact same error:

http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/support/help/MailArchives/gempak/msg00713.html

As you will see, the solution for that problem was to load MS (Microsoft) fonts.

A solution to the same error reported on an Ubuntu forum:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=570046

was to run in the Gnome desktop. Which are you running in?

One thing you may want to try is running 'xfontsel' to see if any of the
fonts indicated in the Warning messages can be found.

I have a feeling that the solution to your problem will be much the same as
was indicated in the two links above.

Cheers,

Tom
