Steve,

The colorbar scale is brightness values (eg the BRIT label). Those are
the data values in the image (eg, the imager senses radiative brightness
at ~6.7 microns). No calibration is provided in the image, so the color
bar is just the range of data. It is not hardcoded other than the fact
that the $GEMTBL/sat/imgtyp.tbl provides a range of 0 to 255 for this
8 bit image product.
