20040513: 20040505: NIDS display in general (was RE: 20040505: CRAFT da ta hardware)

Robert,

I have placed a binary/source combined tarfile for gpnids at:
http://my.unidata.ucar.edu/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewsdownload&sid=9

X86 and Linux executables are included with the necessary pdf and hlp
files, as well as the source for building under $NAWIPS/unidata/programs/gpnids.
This is essentially an expanded replacement for gpvad.

At this point, it is a stand alone program since the image display portion of
GEMPAK will require substantial rewrite to handle NIDS products that
don't have an image, or are in graph coordinates (like the NVW).

I have tested the program with the NCR, N1P, NTP products in the NOAAPORT
data stream for OUTPUT of the tablular and alphanumeric data, as well as the
NVW vad wind graph.

I have also tested the program with the following NEXRAD products
from the NWS ftp site for overlay:
storm tracking information (DS.58sti)
tornado vortex signature (DS.61tvs)
mesocyclone detection (DS.p60-m)
Hail index (DS.p59hi)
To integrate these overlays with NMAP2, you can use the VG driver
and import the information that way.

I also found that the Severe Weather Probability (DS.47swp) and
Storm Structure (DS.p62ss) products are using an undocumented
block ID in the offset section, so these products are not compatible.

I am still working out features/symbols etc, but the basic start is there.
