>Q1) How can we recognize the radar scanning mode, such as PPI or RHI?
>(We learned how to distinguish the normal data file by typing 'od -c file_name

The WSR88D is always in scaning mode. A RHI is just a cross section of the
sweeps. Old WSR57/74 radar's (non-doppler) had user control for stopping
the scan of the radar in order to do an RHI, with the WSR-88D, all
data represents a volume from which an RHI can be constructed.

There is other information such as which VCP mode is in use that I will
add to the text output in gpnexr2 in the next release.

At this time, only level 0 reflectivity is displayable from the GUI since there
is no way to specify parameter and tilt in the gui at this time.
