20030521: GARP/NMAP - data ingesting
Angel,
the $GEMDATA location is typically the root of the data tree with
subdirectories for different data sets. See the GEMPAK tutorial
regarding the file template configuration of datatype.tbl in:
http://my.unidata.ucar.edu/content/software/gempak/tutorial/filetemplates.html
NMAP and the other GEMPAK programs will use this table to locate data sets.
For example, if you have METAR data, the configuration defined in datatype.tbl
expects that you will have a directory $GEMDATA/surface, and the files will
be named according to the template YYYYMMDD_sao.gem. Similarly, upper air data
in $GEMDATA/upperair with files names YYYYMMDD_upa.gem, etc.
If you follow the file naming in the datatype.tbl file distributed with the
package, the $GARPHOME/config/Garp_defaults configuration file for Garp will
be consistent and not need to be modified.
